SUSTAINABLE MANUFACTURING
An Urgent Need
We talk about Recycling, Biodegrading and Composting but at the end of the day we need to be Sustainable.
Plastic is a wonderful material for mankind, but when it is used for low cost, disposable, single use products it becomes very destructive to both Man and Beast, both Terrestrially and Aquatically. It is therefore important that these products be replaced by organic materials that can decompose back to basic nutrients that becomes one with the earth and feeds the soils and organisms. The way to do this is to replace the plastic with Biodegradable or Compostable substitutes. One practical, real life way is to replace Plastic Lined Cups with Corn Starch Lined Cups. Dartpac has achieved this and currently manufactures Biodegradable Paper Cups – Cups made from Paper and lined with Corn Starch (PLA). To ensure customer awareness and certainty about the product, the following is a summary outlining the standards to which our Paper Cups conform thus cementing Dartpac’s claim that it’s products are Compostable in an attempt to make life on earth Sustainable. Firstly, it is important to note that nothing will Compost if it is not subject to the correct conditions and that landfill sites do not allow for composting/biodegrading, in fact all that landfill sites do is “MUMMIFY” the product. Dartpac’s cups will compost in Industrial Composting facilities. Today, these facilities range from Municipal units to Small Commercial units to Household units. The standards to which Dartpac’s Cups conform is summarised as follows:
